Extra-curricular Activities During COVID

Extracurricular activities for kids usually involve numerous activities such as field trips, competitions, scouting, book readings, workshops, conferences, camps, tournaments, and educational tours within the purview of values education. The objective of these activities in and outside of the educational institution is to create a conducive environment where students are active, learn by doing, and have fun.

But pandemic days have restricted most of these outdoor or field activities. This should not deter parents or kids from engaging in meaningful extracurricular activities. Here is a list of useful activities that will help your son or daughter engage and be active during these lockdown days.

  • There are quite a few opportunities for students to participate in online programs such as art classes, musical instruments, karate, or dance lessons that can be delivered through a screen.
  • Many meeting applications have capabilities enabling instructors to meet with small groups or individual students and provide personalized lessons.

Today, most of the students are familiar with virtual meeting platforms.

Sports activities without compromising health safety protocols for participants as well as coaches will help.

  • A limited number of participants may be involved, and practice days, as well as timings, could be adjusted to bring down the total number of participants gathering at one time.
  • It is better to involve kids in outdoor sports rather than indoor sports since indoor sports will require many health safety protocols to be implemented.

Book clubs and other meaningful activities can be planned for students.

  • Small book clubs can be organized for students to meet outside to participate in book reading sessions and discussions.
  • The children shall sit in a circle formation maintaining six feet of separation between children.
  • A variety of other groups could meet using this format to discuss other topics like science and history or any other knowledge-enhancing topics.

It is always better to learn something new, especially if it is a life skill.

  • Baking bread, practicing dance or yoga, learning a new language — many children have picked up new activities during pandemic days.
  • It is an easy way to display a kid’s creativity and illustrates how well they can respond to idle time.

Extracurricular activities are essential, expected, and valuable for children of all ages. Students need the opportunity to attain success outside of the classroom.

At Thaamarai World School, we have come up with many creative extracurricular activities that spark our students’ interests and may later ignite a futuristic passion that might inspire a career.

Thaamarai World School provides a healthy atmosphere for the kids to spend outdoors.
