Krishna Janmashtami 2023

Sweeter than honey, tastier than curd, pleasanter indeed than any happiness and joy is the company, is the power of the name of Krishna. The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm, on this Janmashtami day, in India. Krishna Janmashtami, also known as Krishnashtami, is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Shraavana. Lord Krishna is known worldwide and celebrated as an avatar of God Vishnu.

On Monday, 5 of September 2023, the students of Thaamarai World School celebrated Janmashtami. The students of Pre-Primary and PYP (Primary Years Programme) came traditionally dressed as Radha and Krishna. A splendidly colourful program was organized by the children and staff of the school; where students presented songs, dance performances and a short role play. An awareness on Janmashtami, the mythological stories on Krishna, Radha, Kansh – through plays and narrations; were presented to the children.

The students were overjoyed when they broke the ‘Dahi Handi’ (pot of butter & curd) to grace this occasion. Dahi Handi is the most ancient joyful game played and celebrated, for the birth of Krishna in Janmashtami.
